Hi all,as its the 30th anniversary of the falklands i thought i'd give some of my memories as it is 30years this week i was on the Uganda.
I was a 14yr old schoolboy travelling with Dunsmore school for boys,Rugby.We flew from gatwick to malta where i had my first experience with oozo,not a good idea as the next 12 hours was to be the worst sea sickness i think anybody could possibly experience.There wasnt one toilet or sink basin not overflowing with vomit.I remember thinking how am i going to stand 2weeks of this?
I remember visiting Greek islands, Ephesus in Turkey,Athens,Jerusalem and Venice.We had the tour to the pyramids cancelled for some reason,i cant remember why?
One of the most unnerving memories was being in the middle of the med and finding out England was at war!! (commonplace nowadays)
There were also schools from Leamington,Southam and the lovely Rugby High School for girls on board.
The common room used to echoe to the sounds of start by the jam,girls on film and plenty of madness !
My parents still to this day say i went away a boy and returned a man. All in all two of the best weeks of my life.
