I was on that same cruise. I was fifteen at that time and was with the group from Sir Adam Beck Collegiate in London Ontario Canada.
My life also changed during those two weeks. I first thought I had stepped into a chamber of horrors when we left the muster drill in the common room and stepped onto a floor completely covered in vomit! Who knew the sea-sickness paper bag would become the must-have fashion accessory for its student passengers.
Once the seas and stomachs settled, it was the best two weeks of my life. After reading some of these posts, I came to the conclusion that our group were the ONLY ones who LIKED the food! The galley was proof of the saying, "It may not be good, but there's plenty of it!"
I became a life-long fan of ska and 80's Britpop. I had a crush on a girl from Derbyshire who looked like the brunette backup singer from The Human League. Buying beer on our shore excursions was as easy as buying pop back home. I watched with a mix of excitement, pride and anxiety the television coverage of the Royal Navy task force sailing out of Portsmouth harbour to the Falklands.
Gary, what dorm were you in? Were you down under the waterline like our group was? Was that Australian ship Staff Officer (that our group despised) the famous "Actionman"?

Cheers!
Chris
