N'gal finally found the Weyrwoman's room and knocked lightly. Upon hearing the word 'enter', he brought the large packages in and used his foot to silently reshut the door.
Willmina looked up from the parchment she was writing on at her desk and smiled.
"At last! The gowns?"
"Newly arrived by one of the trader's couriers. He's got all of the Candidates except the new one, Leron."
"Leron?"
"Met him down in the Bowl. That new bronzerider is here as well. R'geto with his Rireth."
N'gal laid the packages on her bed and began to open one of them.
Rising from her chair, she went over to stand beside him to see how they were. Once the wherry hide was off of them, Willmina drew in a sharp breath.
N'gal held up one of the snow-white gowns. This one had small dragons in white embroidery all around the collar.
He smiled at her.
"The tailor, Keffen, said there was no extra charge. All the gowns have them. He said how happy he and all the other traders were for the Clutch and Candidates here. They all chipped in for the work."
Willmina's eyes began to tear-up.
"I would have never expected this."
Her voice was close to cracking and she had to summon some steely reserve to get the tears back under her lids where they belonged. She recalled N'gal mentioning the bronzerider.
"Is R'geto finding a room?"
"I believe he already has. I told him that you would probably like to meet him once he's settled."
"How did you find him, N'gal?"
"Seems reserved. Adirath commented to me privately that the man's former mate, Avidail, he expects to Impress the gold egg."
Willmina bit her lip.
"Thankfully, those decisions are left to the dragonets."
"Exactly what I thought. Please don't mention that to anyone."
"You needn't worry. Shetanth likely would have said the same save that she is vigilant over her eggs."
Willmina laid the gown back on her bed and carefully refolded it to fit back into the hide with the others.
"You paid the courier of these well?"
"I did. I also gave him another ten Marks for Keffen."
Willmina grinned. "You saw them before you opened them here."
"No. I know Keffen's work. He..he made clothes for me and my late-partner in the past." N'gal said softly.
She nodded at the man's mentioning of his mate. It dearly must have hurt for N'gal to leave that grave back at Herra or wherever the person had been buried to come here.
"Thank you for doing that, N'gal."
"No trouble at all, Weyrwoman."
"Please call me Willmina when we talk in private, N'gal. you earned it. Especially for taking a lot of work off of W'menel's shoulders. I worry about him overexerting too much."
N'gal wanted to say something but felt it prudent not to just yet. Something the Weyrwoman might not take well having to be the leader of the Weyr. The feelings of the brownrider towards her was evident even to him, though.
"He won't. I'll make sure of it."
N'gal nodded and turned to leave as silently as he tried to enter.
