Hello, I'm glad to here you intervined on the puppies behalf :) and I don't think you are being selfish however I do hope you relize that being in the kennel could make him worse... Pits can be trained and conditioned to do most anything I believe with the proper love and attention. I had a male one named Petey who was dog and cat aggressive. He loved people but also love to desimate stuff, however within 3 months of owning him I had him living inside with 2 other male dogs and a cat. I also got him to where he would only desimate stuff I had given himfor such a purpose. I did all this with a very simple humane plan... when I would try to lead him into the house and he would then try to attact the other animals I would scoop him up like a baby (he was 9 months old so this wasn't so easy LOL) and cart him back outside to the pen to stay for awile. Then I would try again eventually he got the message that if you want to be inside here ya gota play nice. As for chewing stuff FIRST I provided outlets for that energy I'd buy the big tug ropes and play with him and eventually got him to play with his rope and one of the other dogs. But when I saw him getting something he shouldn't I sternly say no and take it away, If he went and got HIS toy then I'd play with him if he went and tried to get anything else off limits I'd put him in "time out" for about 10-30mins outside depending on the severity of the offense. I think maybe you should try a similar method with your crate as the timeout that puppy does NOT want to live in the crate he wants to live WITH YOU, and if the message is clear that to be out and about means he has certain rules to follow, you will be amazed at how eager to please he will be and how quick he will learn :)
on a side note too much confinement can make some pits MANIC!! I know this too from experiance when I moved I could not keep my pit in the temporary apartment we had rented :( so I tried to have someone take care of him until we bought our house. this DID NOT work out sadly he was forced to live on a chain something he had no experiace with and he went kinda nuts, not mean but just spastic when i would visit and let him loose he would jump, knock me down, runn around like mad chewing stuff and even get nippy with me when time came for me to go (IT was more like he was trying to "hold onto me" not let me leave not to hurt me)I eventually had to "let him go "though to a new home where he could run free much as I miss him I knew being tied up wasn't fair. anyways hope the information I've posted helps Good luck, the pup you have has the potential to be the best dog you've ever owned if you are willig to be the best owner he'll ever have! :) Blessed BE!
