I agree with you re warlords. It is, as I have just written in response to Don, about who is in charge of the typewriter, isn't it?

The Indons covet PNG and see colonialism as the medium by which Indonesia was denied its rightful claim on the whole island... if the British/Dutch/Portuguese can claim Melanesia with impunity, then why not the Indons? Does being White grant every white coloniser special entry while the dark skin Indons are refused.

That is their rationale for holding onto West Papua, and it is their way of thinking when they loook across at PNG and see its instability [or its perceived instability] as a threat to the Indonesian Idea.

I've seen the maps that include northern Oz and PNG as part of an Islamic Republic of Indonesia and that was back in early 1970s. Being a Muslim then [Ahmad bin Abdullah w3as my real Muslim name then]I had carte blanch entree to most Indon official places and I got to know a lot about them [I also spoke fluent Bahasa Indon].

But blow hard and the Indons will take note. They still remain nervous of the power of 'White Violence'.
