Subject: PNG is not Moresby or is that Moresby is not PNG?

"Just remember � Port Moresby is not PNG."

People have been saying this to me since I arrived on Sunday and it has done a lot to boost my confidence. A first timer to PNG, I was a bit stunned when I arrived in Port Moresby with Lisa McMurray, the Hollows' Pacific coordinator, to be met by Dr Bage Yominao who was a bit out of sorts because her cousin had been carjacked and shot in front of his teenage daughter.

She seemed to be in league with Rody Ukin, the Foundation's nursing coordinator, who apologised for his late arrival saying he�d had to find a replacement matron at his hospital in the highlands because his usual one had been suspended for domestic violence.

That combined with the unsettling sight of buildings draped in barbed wire and surrounded by concrete walls and armed guards was making for a good welcome.
