I have the following carb swap question.

Has anyone tried swapping an Enticer 250 carb in place of the stock carb on the SL292c? I believe the main difference is the Enticer carb uses jetting instead of mixing screws.

Alternatively, could I replace the 292c stock keihin diaphragm with the stock 292a/b mikuni? Or perhaps the tillotson HR/HD carbs that came on the Sno-Jets?

The reason I am asking, is that I can't seem to get the stock keihin to run consistently. It will idle and run fine one time and the next time it will idle for a 20 seconds then stall.

Right now I have the sled idling great with a spare enticer 250 carb but it is a dog on the bottom end.

Anyone know or have any suggestions?

The symptoms that you are describing sound a lot like an air leak, either at the manifold, or more likely crank seals. With the engine idling, spray WD40 or a little ether in these areas. If the idle goes up it's because the engine is breathing throug the effected area.

Are you referring to the intake manifold or the exhaust manifold? If it was a base gasket, why would the sled idle well with the enticer carb instead of the stock carb?

Intake manifold and/or crank seals.
I'm not saying for sure, but given the symptoms, these are certainly worth checking.

Looking for a Keihin Carburetor for a 1973 Yamaha SL292c. It is a CD38-32 stamped (839E1). I cannot get my sled to run consistent with the current carburetor and am looking for either a full carb or carb parts. Even with the carb kit in the existing carb it is not running well. I figure it's time to try another carb.

Comes with a 335 cc 2 cyl., twin carbs, free air, hydraulic disc brake, track 15" with sliders, approximate weight 308 lbs, 50 MPG, stored inside for the last 17 years, recently tuned, in good running order, colour - chassis blue cab white, very clean with original manual. Try calling Albert at 613 735 0252 he is the original owner of 2 matching 1970 640 ER alpines that have been stored inside since the late 70's he also has a bunch of nos alpine parts-I think he is a little pricey but the alpine are in very very good shape

Tim,

Don't think you should get 1 of the 4 sleds you own now running before you start another project! The trails are great - that is if you ever get one of those old Rupps, Moto-skis, Arctic Cats or Polaris to run long enough to get out of the Garage !!!!!
