If someone doesn't follow an established code of etiquette then they'll lose respect within the player community and possibly earn even more negative feelings. Which leads to outright abuse in various forums. Especially when it involves the death or theft of another pc.

You take an inflexible rule such as, "NEVER do anything bad to a player who is not actively playing." and your breeding trouble as there's too many circumstances where its justifiable to do bad things to someone whose not active at the keyboard.

help rules
Rules suck but as we see people do things that don't follow the atmosphere
of the mud we'll keep adding.

No more than one character per player.
Stay in character at all times (ooc should be used very sparingly)
If you're link dead and you die, you stay dead.
Don't use out of character knowledge in the game.
Don't abuse the mud code.
Be mature.

As far as I'm concerned, any particular etiquette needed in the mud is already defined in the rule set. Even the posted 'code' that started this thread double posts some of these.

Keep it simple to respecting your fellow players and your golden. A code of etiquette gives you a structure to base respect or disrespect and if its not perfect you'll only get a negative gain for the community who uses it.
