Subject: Nugget hunting using discrimination

Hi All,

A while back I mentioned I was not sure how a detector could overcome the large response of an iron object and detect a nugget near such an object or under a hotrock.

Since that posting I have experimented with several detectors and surprisingly, I found I could detect a 1/4 oz nugget sitting along side a large nail with one of my detectors. The detector that was successful was the Goldbug 2.

I tried the LST, a couple of other Tesoro's, a Garrett, and a Discovery equipped with a coin trax module. Some were equipped with a concentric coil and others had DD coils.

Now, the ability to "see" the nugget along side the nail has me stumped. I have some suspicions as to why this might be possible, but now I need to get my hands on a schematic to verify my ideas. Anybody out there happen to have one of the GB 2?

I am now curious what Ralph or anybody else has found out by experimenting with the newer detectors such as the GMT, the MXT, and the X5, about their ability to detect nuggets hidden under or around hotrocks or iron objects.

Reg
