Subject: What is your personal favorite detector ??

Just for discussion sake, what is your personal favorite gold detector, and why? I realize there are alot of likes and dislikes out there, alot of "my machine is better than you machine", but there is also usually a reason why some prefer one machine over another. It may be brand loyalty, familiarization with that particular machine, difficult ground conditions (right you Aussies??), or simply having a near total confidence in what your particular machine can do given all of the circumstances involved. I know guys still using 20 year old machine that are doing fine in their particular field of hunting. I know others who are never satisfied and still try out virtually every new detector that hits the market.

So who is right, and who is wrong? I don't think any of us could fairly judge someone else for their choice of detector any more than we could judge them for their taste in food or fine wine. Different strokes for different folks...... Most of us just use the one that works best for us personally, our hunting conditions, and perhaps most importantly, our own temperment. There are some machines that I almost despise myself, some that I would have little use for other than a door stop or coat rack (John B. comes to mind.... haha). There are others that I have used in the past that I wish I still had, the one that I use now, and still others that I have yet had the opportunity to try out for myself.

But when it comes down to preaching "the best", I really have trouble with the fact that many such philosophers have not even begun to use or even try every machine that is available for their particular need. How then, can someone say Brand XX or Brand YY is "THE best" while leaving no room for consideration of the myriad of different hunting conditions to be encountered in all the different areas of the world. While you might not want to go nugget detecting in Western Australia with a very basic Tesoro coin detector with fixed ground balance, neither would you likely want to hunt coins in your local park using a Minelab SD2200 with one of it's huge accessory coils. There are simply different tools for different jobs.

So, what is your "favorite", and why?

Ralph
