Subject: US Constitution and enemy combatants 101
In reply to: BJ 's message, "Re: The press of their day up to..." on Friday, July 28, 01:05:37pm

Our Constitution and its amendments apply to our citizens and how we interact with other nations and their citizens. These “enemy combatants” are terrorists with NO claimed affiliation or backing of a foreign government, nor do they not abide by the rules set forth in the Geneva Convention. Where do you draw the mark? The fact we are even willing to give them an opportunity to defend their actions is more than they deserve. In past conflicts, this type of combatant was summarily executed upon capture. Would you prefer we return to that policy? I would. Why waste our resources coddling these vermin?

As for the Seventh, the above argument renders it moot in the case of these people.

Regarding the press, you are correct in the fact they have pursued politicians relentlessly for years. They have always, up to and through the Korean War, been supportive of the interests of the United States. Then came Viet Nam and the turn of our press from patriot to protagonist. It remains the same today. The Afghanistan and Iraq invasions were both justified. The way we have persecuted these actions is the only portion, which come into question. You must meet an enemy with a force that demoralizes them. The force these animals understand is ruthless by our standards but would have been effective in ending this conflict in a timely manner. The problem lies in the fact the world body is unwilling to give the same latitude to a civilized nation when dealing with this type of mentality.
