Subject: 3rd Edition thoughts

Been reading the 3rd edition player's handbook and I must say I am impressed with what they have done. I was a firm believer that TSR had made a mistake with changing over from 1st to 2nd and it took me a LONG time to see all the pluses of the 2nd ED. I had my reservations about 3rd ED but I am very pleased. Many of the things we have been talking about for our house rules are already a base in the 3rd ED. I also really enjoy the feats. The system even allows for wizards to become proficient in swords and the like! I REALLY enjoy the weapon system, as each class has certain AREAS they know, and you can imagine fighters know damn near everything as they should about weapons. I also like the fact that character ability scores (such as STR, etc) increase as they gain levels. This reflects the fighter working out, the wizard learning more, cleric becomes more in tune with the world and in touch with his god, etc. This doesn't mean that a wizard can't weight lift to improve his STR, just used it as an example. I found it rather nice. I also like the 'd20' system they have come up with. The THAC0 is out. High AC is good now and -'s bad. If you have a +12 AC, someone needs to roll a 12 or higher to hit you. Simple. You add the bonuses from your STR to hit roll, he adds bonuses from DEX to his AC. Neat system and VERY easy to use. Skills have gone the way of the Star Wars system... being assigned a difficulty number and you need to roll higher than that number. The harder the task, higher the number, etc. I also am pleased with the races and limitations being removed. I will finally be able to play Marz as his original intent using the 3rd ED. I also LOVE the way infravision has gone... dark vision and low light. This is a DM's dream come true; no more confusion. I have been playing around with the character generator disk on the back inside cover of the PH and createing new characters for 3rd ED. I have my main bad guys done now, so watch out! Hehe. Anyway, if you are using this disk, be sure to log on the internet and check for updates. I downloaded the newest demo version and you can even get magic items for your characters now using this one (1.2 version). I will be buying the core rules for 3rd and the tools set.

As I read more, I am finding the 3rd edition more to my liking. Guys, I've been DMing for 12+ years now, and playing RP's for 17+... I am impressed the way it has gone. I will be buying the rest of the books and hope to run a 3rd ED game soon. Anyone interested can post here. I read almost daily. Later guys.
