Subject: Why fangirls run in packs
In reply to: Kaltia 's message, "Is anybody else fed up with fangirls? (bitchy rant)" on 12:45:11 05/14/03 Wed

There is a simple logic as to why fangirl packs exist: self-esteem preservation. If fangirls didn't band together in their basic no talent, giggly, immature groups, there wouldn't be any, because the negative (in the minds of fangirls, constructive critism is the enemy) reviews would have been too much. After so many flames and critiques of their work, the fangirl would be forced to either take down their work or to improve it.

With a fangirl pack, the fangirl doesn't have to do this. They have a circle of fangirls who will adore their work no matter what in exchange for adoration of their own work and the members will defend their fangirl pack's work against anyone who doesn't follow their logic.

This system has one very large and very obvious flaw: The fangirl doesn't bother to improve their writing or to expand on their writing style. They will keep generating the same unimaginative, flat, marysue-crap over and over because that's what their fangirl pack is doing.

It's a group mentality issue. The group thinks that a particular type of writing is good (ex. the "hot canon character and the perfect and overdone insert) and the individual will go along with the group, even if the group is wrong. Scary but, true.

How is this problem going to be solved? I doubt it ever will. Not as long as there's a group of silly fangirls who will continually rely on each other to boost their individual egos.

I'll be headed back into exile now ~+~
