Subject: Use hard wood

(I never thought I'd say that here)

The harder the wood the easier it is to get a good edge on it. You'll have to do a lot of shaving on it to get it right but should turn out just as sharp as you want. If you use a soft wood then your edge will break or dent easy. You could also try giving it a quick brushing of eurothane (sp?) which will smooth out the surface and make everything nice and even, but it can be hard to work with, there won't be any poors in it so it wont take paint well without primer. Good, fine sanding and a nice even coat of primer and paint could probably remove any surface imperfections.

Me, customize? Heck no, I'm from a family of carpenters.
