It seems to me if the guidelines are given upfront & the contest follows the guidelines then the pageant is most likely the same way. I guess that I am confused about your complaint. Do you have a problem with professional pictures winning? (NT) -- We sent in one of my daughter's pro pictures, but it was a toned down one with more subtle h/m. This pageant allows h/m, glitz clothes, and pro pictures, but on a more toned down level., 16:20:22 08/04/02 Sun

  - They won over hers, like at any contest, because those particular judges on that particular day, liked that picture better. You have a different set of judges with the same criteria and they come up with different results. It's that simple. You know, you're taking a chance on wasting your money ANY time you go to a pageant. I'd rather take my chances on one where you know the rules upfront.       - AAF is not a pageant where the winners are based on who spent the most money. Having a big "name" does not matter, nor how much your dress cost. The contestant with the greatest natural beauty, poise, personality, character & sincerity will be the one who gets the most points. If she models great, that helps. If she looks great in her dress that helps. But you can't buy a win by having the most expensive clothes & photos. You have to earn it yourself.         They judge modeling & talent based on age of the contestant. No modeling score for beauty. Beauty is based on interview, facial beauty & fashion. Clothes are judged on fit, age appropriateness & how well they compliment the person So if a young child had a great personality in her interview, strong facial beauty & looked great in her dress she MIGHT beat an older girl who modeled nice but didn't do well on the interview. There are 2 modeling events which DO score for modeling but there are other events which do not. (NT) -- Winner might not be the 1 w/ the best pro-am, but the best "all around" pkg w/ high scores in other categories.       - I think there is a differemce between personality and a child running all over the stage! As long as your daughter's attire is age appropriate, and fits her well she will do fine. If your daughter shows personality while modeling then she shouldn't have a problem. Last year SC pink pic by TO won OA photo, so pro pics aren't going to hurt you either.       - I think I saw the criteria for the photo contest was natural facial beauty, personality & expression & quality of photo. So the judges must have felt the photos they chose scored best in those areas. Many expensive professional photos are technically perfect but lack personality. And some are too retouched. And I guess if they are obviously VERY retouched there might be some doubt about if the facial beauty is "natural" or "artificial" (NT) -- LOL, 21:02:29 08/05/02 Mon
      - Well, at Nationals the personality score is judged during an off-stage interview with the judges before the beauty competition ever starts, so a child running "wild" on stage would not get a good personality score for that even if the judges thought it was cute.
