Subject: Making SCU a "Real School"

Perhaps SCU has more than enough applicants these days, but it would undoubtedly have even more if it had a football program. Many high school students (both girls and boys) believe that football is an important part of what they want in a college experience and decide not to apply to schools without a football program.

This point was brought home to me by my grandson, who currently plays JV football for Berkeley High School, when I told him that he might want to consider Santa Clara for college. He asked me about its football program, and when I said that SCU had none, he said simply, "I want to go to a real school, grandpa," and that was that.

Please post news of any discussions about reintroducing football to SCU, even if at a club level. Thanks.
