Berkeley High has a rugby program, I believe. Also, located in Berkeley, everyone knows that Cal has the best rugby college program in the USA or Canada. Santa Clara is one of the top second division rugby schools right now, with an excellent coach, Crhis Kron, running the program. For all practical purposes, it is the contact football sport at Santa Clara. Most high school football players aren't going to play football in college. Rugby is a great sport for these athletes. By the way, Santa Clara just beat UC Santa Cruz this past Saturday to start their regular season, and UCSC has been one of the better rugby schools in California for many years, a school that has never had football as a sport.
