Wow. OK. Well, a little about me: I worked for a series of record labels and radio stations (I live in NYC) in the 90's (I own my own club now). So I had a chance to meet SOOOO many people.
Here are the ones that stick out...
1. Art Alexakis -- Everclear -- REALLY touchy-feely, had a dirty old man kind of vibe. VERY NASTY.
2. Jeremy Toback, Shawn Smith, Stone Gossard, and Mike Berg -- Brad -- Went to the afterparty @ the Bowery Ballroom and they ALL were amazing. Stone and Shawn were quiet, but cordial, but Jeremy and Mike were ALL too happy to party. Talking, sharing drinks, the whole nine. They were like locals, not "rock stars." VERY NICE.
3. Stephan Jenkins -- Third Eye Blind (whatever happened to them?) -- Who the fuck does this guy think he is? At the time, he was dating -- wait for it -- Charlize Theron...no one knew who she was back then...total doll, looked like a long-suffering soul with him (no wonder she got rid of him). The guy acted like his shit didn't stink, and let's not even DISCUSS his rider. I think J.Ho (sorry, J.Lo) had less demands. VERY NASTY.
4. Stephen Tyler -- BIG hug. BIG kiss. BIG smile. End of story. VERY NICE.
5. Howard Stern and Robin Quivers -- the LEAST pretentious people you will EVER meet. VERY NICE.
(they're not really rock stars, I guess...)
6. Gilby Clarke -- ex-Guns'n'Roses -- I'm friends with a lot of people who work at his label, and after his show, he came out, and didn't leave until the VERY LAST FAN left the club. We talked for HOURS, even exchanged e-mails. I still get the occasional e-mail from him now and again. And the last time he saw me, I got a BIG hug and kiss, and was introduced to all his friends. THE NICEST, HANDS DOWN, NO QUESTION.
7. Vince Neil -- Motley Crue -- he was doing a solo show at the time, and it was the night of his birthday. The club owner (a friend of mine) DRAGGED me backstage and thrust the cake in my hand -- "GO TAKE IT TO HIM WHEN HE GOES ONSTAGE!" I went upstairs and looked at Vince, face BRIGHT RED, and said, "I think I have to give this to you onstage." He laughed and smeared a bit of chocolate frosting on my nose. "No worries, darlin'." Posed for pictures with me after the show...got a dirty look from his fiancee (now wife) Lia, but once I made it clear that I wasn't interested in getting in Vince's pants, she calmed down some. NICE.
8. Midge Ure -- Ultravox -- kept telling people, from the stage, to "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Got offstage and nearly trashed the backstage area. NASTY.
