If they're a lesser known band at a small club, help pass out flyers or promote their show prior to the gig. If you have a website or can write for a periodical, try and email them for a brief interview that you can post or submit somewhere. On the day of the show, make sure you look hot (but not necessarily slutty) and get to the bar early. Before or after sound check, walk up and introduce yourself and/or tell them about how you helped or ask them about the interview. Just keep making eye contact and smiling throughout the night, then they'll either come up and talk to YOU or you'll feel comfortable enought to walk up and hang with them after the show. Worked for me! :)
