I ended a 5 year friendship with a woman who was very competitive when it came to male attention. Female friends were there simply as her third wheels. If any man showed me attention, she'd make damn sure it wasn't for long by outwardly competing for the guy's attention. Which couldn't happen very often because she'd hop from bar to bar or leave a place where she wasn't the center of attention. She hated being called a slut or a whore because, deep down, she probably knew it was true. I literally never bonded with any guy romantically while out with her - except for the production managers and roadies she worked for while conducting her music-business work as a massage therapist and runner. I later figured out she wanted to push them on me, so she didn't have to deal with their advances. When I told her I wasn't going to accept any advances from a certain creepy prod. manager, she went back and told him what I'd said so he'd be angry at me. Gee, I must have been a bad friend for not allowing her to whore me out. I also suspect she soured another association I had with a different prod. manager by telling him something or other. She fooled me a looong time. She was very slick about competing with females while acting like she was a thoughtful, generous friend. All the male attention had to be on her at all times. I remember going backstage for one band's show. The guys were hitting on a young blonde girl. Band guys will take fresh meat over a couple of older women - no surprise there. Another time, we were on a tour bus where a famous lead singer took another girl to the back of the bus. Both times, she was clearly upset that the attention wasn't on her and wanted to leave in a huff. I left in a huff myself once - when I discovered her grinding against one lead singer I'd taken an interest in. Just a part of her attention-whore manner.

I say screw those other women. At least they don't pretend to be your friend then stab you in the back by slyly trying to socially isolate you so their star can shine brighter. At least you know what your getting with these ladies. Still, I wouldn't bother engaging in that ridiculous game of upstaging -it will only make you look just as bad as they are.
