 Depends how you define groupie. But I guess it's just you like a particular band, you like a particular person in that band, you think he might like you, you figure out a way to meet them, and if you click and anything physical happens, you're a groupie in some circles.

If you are famous they will probably throw bands at you, and do the arranging to meet you. It may not be the one you want though. Just like ordinary life. People are attracted or not, and some girls like to be the one who chooses.
