Subject: Does it matter what month you start?

I really like the patchwork primer and am very excited about it. But, before I bought the primer my kids and I decided to buy another unit study that lasts 9 weeks or so. My kids want to do the one I bought(and spent way too much on) first.
My concern is by the time we are done with the first unit study, it will be late Oct. Can I still do the nature walks, etc here in Indiana then? I think it may be too cold. Should I start at the beginning where I would really like, or do I worry about doing Columbus in Oct. and Pilgrims etc in NOv? Can I skip forward? Go faster to try and catch up?
I am really torn because my kids really want to do both.
