Subject: Is anyone using Inventions and Discoveries vol. 2 this year?

Hello, I am back. I have been so busy and HOT! We are in MI, but it has been 90+ degrees this week with high humidity and our air conditioner is broken. I don't know how you guys in Florida handle it! I am starting to plan for September since I want to take a break from Summer school and school in general in August. I would love to have my house organized and school work for the first semester (at least) organized before August. Then, I can play, scrapbook and rest. :-)

I was wondering if any of you are using vol. 2 next year? We decided not to use vol. 1 and skip to vol. 2 due to my son's love of inventions. Today he took his old bicycle, broke the chain, attached his cordless drill to the bike with zip ties and rode down our street on a motored bicycle without pedaling. Granted, he didn't go very fast, but he is only 9 1/2!!!!! Some days I can't believe this kid! If you give them the tools, supplies and opportunites kids really take off!! Every day I wonder how Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Edison felt? I wish they had written an autobiography! I could really learn from their wisdom, patience and courage.

We are going to start with unit 2 on Transportation and then go to unit 1 and then unit 3. With Michigan Winters it is better to do the Transportation unit in the Fall. There are so many opportunities here. Just wondering if anyone has any great ideas. Also, how long do you spend on a typical week doing just PP (which ever vol. you use)?

If you are starting with vol. 1, make sure you check out vol. 2 for the following year. It is wonderful! I have looked at several unit studies on inventions since we started studying it last year. The other studies were not as integrated or hands-on as PP. This past year we tried to study inventions and inventors on our own, but didn't get very far. I am so excited to have it all laid out for me. I have been going over my PP book little by little since I received it. My friends have even commented that this is the first time that they have heard excitement in my voice about what we are studying!

I love reading all of your comments and questions on the board.

Blessings,
Liann
