Subject: Easy spine book for language delayed child?

Hi - I just ordered V olume 1, and am looking forward to it. Our daughter is 9, is autistic, so is very language delayed, and has difficulty understanding anything that is not extremely concrete. We had been using Five In A Row and lapbooks, but I want to start something more sequential with our daughter.

I'd like to find a very easy American History spine book to go along with Volume 1. It would have to be low level vocabulary, very short sentences, and designed for either a very young or learning disabled child. Lots of visuals would be a plus. Has anyone seen anything that might work?

We'll probably use lots of the American history-related Easy Reader-type books, and I also plan to use the coloring/activity books The Light and the Glory plus the sequels (available from Timberdoodle). Still, I'd like a history text. Any ideas?

Thanks -
