Subject: Sharon, lots of questions for you on PP

I have a son who wants to be an inventor and design engineer. He is always working on inventions. He is 9 yrs. old and will be in 4th grade next year. (This summer he is building a "pod-racer" and he believes he it will really fly with lawnmower engines and a homemade propeller!! Oh, I feel like the Wright Brother mother!! I don't have the heart to discourage him.) My other son is 7 1/2 and is hyperactive. It is a challenge to keep him focused on schoolwork. We have a relaxed approach to school due to my health challenges and my younger sons needs. I thought I was all set with my curriculum for school next Fall, but my oldest son asked to continue to study inventors and inventions next year. I want to teach to his interest and we did not cover as much as I would have liked this year due to my illness. Now for the first question. How much prep work is involved for the mom/teacher who is using PP? I need to be very careful since I have limited energy. Also, do I need to start with Vol. 1? Does the series build? Is it ok if I just skip volume 1 since my kids will be older if I complete volume 2 first and then we would move to volume 3. My kids love science, but it is definately a weak area for me. Are there explanations for the moms who have not learned the material when they were in school? We also worked on world geography and missions this year for social studies, but were not able to cover as much as I would have liked for the same reason. I would love to do volume 3 for the 2003-2004 school year. They will be in 4th and 5th grades then. We have a math program (Math-U-See), so is it necessary to do the math portion? Also, can we skip parts of the unit if we are already covering that in another area or have previously covered it? How easy is it do that? Do you have a suggested book list, that varies with grade levels, in the PP manual or do we just find our own books from the library? If I purchase your unit study and after reviewing it find it will not meet our needs, can I return it? Our curriculum fair was in May and I did not see any of your material there. I am in Michigan. I'm sorry that I have so many questions. Maybe I should get paid for being a curriculum researcher??? I would make a lot of money!! hehehehehehe I am just excited to finally see something geared towards my son's interest. I wish there had been more information available last Winter. Thanks for your help.

Blessings, Liann
