Here is my latest information. 89 Accord DX, I followed the vacuum line 19 through the car starting at TV-A and I ended up at the "vacuum house," located at the upper fire wall passengers side. Not sure of the actual name of this is, but ther are a ton of lines going into it. When I started the car this a.m. it did the normal "sounds like it is miss firing" deal, and when I pinched the line 19 at the "vacuum house" the problem cleared. Then, after the car was partially warm, I started it, it made the problem briefly then the idle came up, but I noticed it was just a little on the low RMP side, so I pinched line 19 again at that box and the RPM's came up just a little, but certainly noticable.
Is there a pump in this box that is partially failing, or does this mean it is working and something else is failing? As with most pumps, if they are failing and you bring the RPM's up they typically will act some what normal, that is until they really fail. My guess is that if there is a failing pump on line 19. That line 19 did go through the choke release and the fast idle as Glen mentioned, but it also teed to a canaster below the vacuum box and went to with what looks like a canaster with a fuel line running into it.
I know I can get the part at the salvage yard from the same car that has 104k on it. But, I wanted some feed back because while I am there, if you think I need the choke release/fast idle components I will get them as well.
Is it common for a vacuum pump to fail? Assumming that is what I saw in that box. OR, what creates the vacuum if there is no pump? Again, my car has 291k.
Thank you up front for any feedback.
Mike
