Hi Denise;
A couple things I can think of...
(1) Assuming that you just had a bad hose and lost the coolant, I would think it was too much of a coincidence that you had another problem at the same time.
(Also assuming you added a 50/50 mixture of coolant/water and not pure coolant). Want to make sure you completely filled the system when you replaced the coolant by bleeding the air from the engine. Bleed bolt is at the back of the thermostat housing. Usually you loosen the bleed bolt and add your 50/50 mixture to the radiator. Once all the bubbles (air) have escaped and a solid stream of fluid is running, tighten the bleed bolt.
If air is trapped in the system or if pure coolant (100% antifreeze) is used, overheating can occur.
(2) If the engine was overheating first, and a ruptured hose was the result (???), there could be another problem.
With the car operating normal while driving, and overheating at idle, it sounds like the cooling fan may not be operating. If this were true, air would flow through the radiator, while driving, to cool the coolant, but when you stop and the fan is not operating, pulling air through the radiator, it begins to overheat.
If this is the case, it could be a bad coolant temperature switch (which is mounted in the thermostat housing and closes at 194 F to turn on the cooling fan), the fan itself, the fan relay, or a blown fuse.
Don't know the extent of your troubleshooting abilities, so if you need any further advice please repost.
Hope this helps...
Mike
