From what I have read and can gather, a LOT of people are ready to bolt the Republican party over this issue. People are highly upset with Bush and his de facto amnesty plan. Think Harriet Miers times ten.

The problem is, Libertarians are for open borders. Then there is the Constitution party. Listen to this.... I saw a thread somebody started about the Constitution party as a viable alternative, on a very large Conservative discussion forum. Gosh, if this is any indication, and I'm sure it is, you could have had loads of new members overnight, but guess what?

They went over there and read the platform, beginning with the Preamble! I mentioned the Preamble to you in the past. You can guess the rest. "Bible thumpers this, Bible thumpers that." Not every Conservative leaning individual, and certainly not everyone who is fed up with open borders (including blacks, etc.), is going to sign on to that. If only you had prevailed in persuading them to tone it down a bit. You guys will probably make some gains, but not like it could have been. Oh well....

Joe
