I say just take away the question... make them all legal and force them to pull their weight as anyone else.
I've been noticing something kindof funny... the LEGAL immigrants are the lazy ones... the gang members, drug addicts/pushers, etc... But the ILLEGAL ones are the ones who are incredible people. I now have a good friend who is an illegal from Mexico. He is a cook at one of the places I work. He lost his job in Mexico ( it was a VERY good job, especially by Mexico's standards... ) and could not find another to make the money to support his wife and 5 kids. So, he came here to work for a year or two and he's sending the money to his family.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not being an obsessively emotional left-winger here... what I'm saying is that I feel immigration should be legalized, but that all immigrants must hit the ground running... in other words, pull their weight with NO special treatment.
A also feel a good way to limit any possibility of a mass immigration of people to this country would be to STOP making buddies with foreign governments NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE. We have no business making treaties and alliances with foreign governments. We need to make friends with the PEOPLE of the world. Make them want to fix their own country's problems...
