You could try home cooking cooked food for him if you want to. There are many good recipes for home cooked food (not raw food as I am not familiar with that) around that are nutritionally complete. I have homecooked for my dogs for many years and raised my 8 year old puff on it. She has never eaten dry dog food except when we travel. They love it and can't wait to eat and she has never refused a meal yet!
