Date Posted: 10:33:11 06/17/02 Mon In reply to: Lauren 's message, "Jenny, i think you wrote a book! :-)" on 10:29:11 06/17/02 Mon Her friends were in the longe. Melanie started talking a mile a minute, rapidly replaying the amazing lesson to her friends. "Five feet? Be realistic Melanie. You're only 12 and Princess is practically a pony!" Stephanie said, instantly jealous and skeptical. "Yes, it was 5 feet! She seemed to erupt beneath me, to surge over it..." she paused, breathless. "I can't b-believe I just did that!" She dropped onto the couch and grinned happily. "Mom says I'm only allowed to jump that high supervised in the jmuping arena. But still!" "Five feet is really high," Bogsdan said, eyes wide. "Princess? That little Arab?" Melanie nodded. "Well, I've been jumping since I was 5 -that's 7 years of jumping. And Princess was trained as a jumper when she was only 2. Anyways, the first time she refused." Mel gave a sheepish grin. Bogsdan laughed. "Now THAT sounds more like her." "You guys wanna go on a trail ride?" Stephanie suggested, draining her Coke and throwing it away. "Yeah! But I can't ride Princess after that workout...I'm going to go ask my mom if I can ride Gamble." She hurried off down the ailse. Gamble was resting in his stall. Jennifer was longing Goddess in the indoor arena, away from distraction. "Mom, can I take Gamble out on the trails? Please?" Melanie asked, watching as the shiny black Arab circled Jennifer. "Mmm, ok, but no jumping anything higher than 2 feet and I mean it. If my precious baby comes back with a scratch on him, you're in trouble," Jennifer said seriously. Gamble was her huge dressage horse, and the only reason she was allowing her 12 year old daughter to take him out was because he was gentle and she was experienced. "Have fun." "Uh, ok." Melanie hoped desperatly Jennifer's "precious baby" didn't get a scratch on him. She groomed him carefully and tacked up. Then leading the 16.3hand Thoroughbred to the mounting block, she climbed into the saddle. "You look cute up there," Bogsdan said as he mounted Rosie. Melanie looked down at him and flashed him a grin. "I look cute anywhere, right?" Her heels were still several inches above his belly. Gamble was huge! Gathering the reins and adjusting to the change from her 14h something Arab, Melanie settled into the all-purpose english saddle and asked for a walk. Instantly Gamble picked up a smooth, effortless walk. Stephanie rode Cinnamon Spice and Bogsdan rode Rosie. "I feel kinda out of place," Melanie said as the bay gelding strode smoothly up the trail. "My mom said no jumping anything higher than 2 feet." Stephanie looked surprised. "He can go higher." "Yeah, I know, he's a great jumper, but she doesn't want me to injure him," Melanie said, rolling her eyes. They laughed. Gamble stretched out his neck, pulling the reins through her fingers. He snorted and ambled up the trail at a loose, swinging walk. "Where to?" Stephanie asked as her little Arab gelding pranced to the side, tossing his head playfully. She tightened the reins and pressed him to a trot. Gamble and Rosie followed. "Let's ride to the creek and then race in the pasture," Melanie suggested eagerly. Bogsdan agreed. The 3 kids trotted their horses to a winding creek which ran through the wooded pasture. CONTINUE PLEASE! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
