Well, I wouldn't call female strippers "ridiculous". Male stripping (for women) is a WHOLE other ball of wax as compared to female stripping for men. (I think that male stipping for men is also different from female stripping for men, but not as much -- anyway, that's a whole other thing.)
As background, I used to be a female stripper (for men). And I think that there are a number of things going on there. One is visual stimulation -- but I think most men would agree that nudity (or graphic sex or any visual stimulation) gets boring after the first half-hour or so.
Another thing is power -- I think that (some) men enjoy the dynamics of being a seated, clothed, person-of-power surrounded by standing, unclothed, servants. (Not that the power is entirely one-sided -- after all, the servants walk away with the money.)
Finally, I found that the "regulars" at the strip clubs where I worked seemed to follow the pattern that I've heard is true of a number of "johns" -- they were really paying for female company. As a stripper, a big part of your job is to walk around and mingle with the patrons. I found that a lot of men paid *for that* -- for the experience of having a no-tension, no-expectations conversation with a woman.
In contrast, male stripping offers none of that. It doesn't offer much visual stimulation -- I've never heard of a woman going *alone* to a male strip club, whereas a lot of men do. It doesn't key into (typical) female fantasies -- I don't think many women find the "Village People" concept very hot. It really is like a farce -- a way for women to bond over the "giggle factor" of *omigod, there's a nekkid man -- and he's RIGHT THERE!*
