C.P.B. Partisan,

Ha! If those 3rd world citizens can AFFORD to pay for patented genetically-modified seeds (which are very expansive and not that effective, either)! Also, since they are patented (the GM seeds) farmers are not allowed to keep the seeds that come from the next-generation crops in order to re-plant. It's all about the money. Greed. Also, GM foods destroy natural crops. Lovely, isn't it?

Do your homework! Genetically modified foods aren't as great and as safe as people (especially politicians) would want you to believe. Also, I wasn't talking about Gen-tech for MEDICAL purposes. I'm talking about the foods that we eat. Why do we need to fix something that was never broken to begin with? Genetics for medical science is for fixing what needs repairing. That's not the case for the organic foodstuffs that we eat; in which, we should leave well enough alone. One may be eating a potato that has been genetically engineered to secrete its own pesticides. Beetles eat it and die. We eat it and perhaps, we too, are being poisoned (in smaller dosages). (By the way, they alread DO have potatoes like this on the market.)

I'm no 'tree-hugger'. I'm all for science . . . IF it is done responsibly. Don't you agree that new scientific discoveries should be explored cautiously, with very careful conciderations of what may be the consequences of that research and experimentation? Or should we just blindly leap ahead at whatever is new, exciting, and promising without concideration of the resulting consequences? This is something that needs to be critically thought about, after all as the mathematician (Ian Malcom)said in Jurassic Park: "God help us, our lives are in the hands of engineers."

Yeah, 'genetic' engineers. Would you give a scalpel to a nurse who has just graduated from college and tell him to operate on you? Probably not. When our lives are in the hands of the inexperienced who are dealing with completely new technology, we cannot afford to be ignorant. We didn't volunteer to be the guinea pigs of this massive science experiment, but unwittingly, we are.

Think about it.
