where i grew up, if you went to the movies you had to put up with the cows. we were quite matter of fact about it. when the super safeway came to town we talked about the deli for 6 months! we never locked our doors because, "what if someone comes over while we're gone??? how would they get in???"

then we went to the city and they said, "yeah! exactly! you wouldn't want them to get in! so lock the doors!"

rural life can be so boring that every single minute detail about each other wants to be explored... but! rural people are much more forgiving, too, i think. in the city... if you don't agree with someone, you crumble that relationship up, and toss it in the trash -- like so many fast food wrappers. there are so many other people around, there is always someone else to try out. in the country, sometimes you won't see a neighbor for ages and if they have some little thing that bugs ya, you try not to notice it and look for something that you do like.

the hard part is finding other non t.v. people.
