Subject: Any suggestions for favorite Food Tv shows?

other than good ol' Alton's "Good Eats" and whatever show Jamie is currently having (I love to watch Jamie Oliver but I don't tend to learn anything from watching him, sadly)

Anyway I'm trying to learn how to cook better so I don't starve when I move out in a year, lol... just wondered what anyone's favorites were ("Good Eats" being my absolute favorite - I love learning the science behind things, and they aren't all really complicated "chef-like" things - in fact I just read an interview where Alton Brown said he doesn't consider himself a "chef" but rather just a "cook")

anyway - just wondering - incase anyone wonders - I just got Alton Brown's book "Gear for your Kitchen" about pots and pans and knives and all that kind of stuff, and its really cool (but then I love to read that kind of strange thing - I have a book that talks all about china and silverwear that I bought several years ago too =)

[> Oh, Gosh-where do I begin? I like most of the cooking shows on PBS, Rachel Ray, Emeril, Tyler Florence (I wish he had really been a naked chef), Top 5, and The Barefoot Contessa. -- mama cass, 19:09:15 01/24/05 Mon [1]

[> [> [> Also, have you checked out Yan can Cook or America's Test Kitchen? I think these shows show internationally on all types of public tv, so you should be able to catch it. It's usually on Weekend mornings at 11 and 11 :30. -- Cass, 13:01:48 01/26/05 Wed [1]

[> [> [> [> ooh I so wish that our PBS carried America's Test Kitchen (I've fallen in love with Cook's Illustrated magazine - which is who does the show) and I haven't seen Yan Can Cook on in YEARS ("yan can cook! so can you!" - can you tell I watched too many cooking shows as a child?) -- Aria, 12:25:52 01/28/05 Fri [1]

[> OOHH I love Food TV! I really got into it over the holiday break. I enjoy Paula Deen (the Southern lady), Everyday Italian (with Giada de Laurentiis), Tyler Florence (Food 911), and from time to time, the Barefoot Contessa. -- Sara, 23:14:53 01/25/05 Tue [1]

They have demos, easy recipies, and even an ingredient -subsitiution guide for those oopsie-I'm-out-of moments. -- Mama Cass (plus, a food and drink pairing, and a party planning section...can you tell this is one of my favorite things?), 20:32:42 01/30/05 Sun [1]
