Honestly, I love Al as the sexy, swinging, Chivello-smoking bachelor. The cruel twists of fate are what made his triumphs bittersweet, and I guess that is the best way I would describe Al.

I am of the opinion that as the show drew near its end, the ~QL~ staff felt it only fitting to impart some sense of closure in reuniting Al w/Beth (or else, one might argue, what the Hell was all the Leaping for if nothing better ever came of Sam or Al??) They left Sam's fate open-ended so that the spirit of Quantum Leap could not be extinguished.

I do not believe, however, that they were closing the book on Al's life. Only writing --rewriting-- a chapter.

Just as any critical change that Sam made affected his "host's" life, the tiny ripples in time could therefore manipulate others far and near. People who otherwise would never know of each other meet by chance. Sometimes the alterations work against those who may have once been "destined" for something. Or maybe it changes the little things, but the Big things remain the same.

If that is the essence of Quantum Leap, then there are infinite versions of "M.I." yet to be discovered. I allowed "School Daze" to entertain the possibility. I did not forget the episode that inspired this story. It is because of "Mirror Image" I wrote it.
