Hi there,

It's really nice to see a group of enthusiastic classmates here. Just a word of thanks to your efforts! Perhaps, we can include this website as a link in either the Wah Yan official homepage or Past Students' Association as well.

Regards
Hui Wai

Thanks, Hui Wai, that certainly is a good idea.

But before we do that, let's gather some more momentum from within ourselves to grow this forum first. I have been trying to stir up a similar forum in the PSA web-site for some time, but due to some rather unnecessary concerns over privacy and vandalism, the idea was put off. If we pull together a successful forum here, maybe other years and possibly the PSA will follow suit someday.

That's true. Formal organisations has a lot of concerns in every imaginable aspect before taking any action, that's why they are always slow to take action.
On the other hand, we are just a bunch of "Ma Lut Lo" doing whatever we like, BS whatever we like to BS and so we can can have an energetic and flaring forum.

Glad you brought up this subject.

I have the same concerns too from my previous experience of running a web forum when I built the Wah Yan site some seven years ago.

It was quite a success in the beginning. It was accessed by a broad spectrum of Wah yanites and has a very high volume. Unfortunately, after a while I was forced to close it down when non-Wahyanites started to vandalize the forum with obscene messages, foul languages and personal verbal abuse.

One "solution" is password protecting the forum. We could use different passwords for each users or just the same password for all.

Those who want to join the forum is required to obtain their passwords via email from our Forum Admin. This has the additional advantage of collecting email addresses for our database.

What do you guys think?

Paul,

For a non-official forum like the present one, what you said is quite okay.

It is a different matter, if the forum is held by the school itself and (to a lesser extent) the PSA.

You can't imagine how terrible those messages were... attacking the school and the teachers maliciously.

That's why 6 years ago I closed down the web forum in www.wahyan.edu.hk which was maintained by me at that time.

I didn't want the reputation of our mother school be tainted.

Ashley,

Yes, I totally agree with you. An formal open forum faces a lot of problems, and there is always a conflict between user-friendliness and security.

On the other hand, a private forum like ours, which is not open to the public world, is muh more easy to handle.

I didn't know that your experience was that bad. Maybe it's time we think ahead before it turns havoc. Or maybe this being such a narrowly curculated forum, purity is easier to maintain. Actually I don't mind a certain degree of Ma Lut Lo talk with no evil intent.

Easier to do it with a common password for all. The degree of protection need not be very strigent.

Glad that you guys are still up and web-surfing. Guess what, I am actually waiting for the 'Ma Lut Lo' from the States to login to see what we have done today.

I suggest to keep it privately, Class 80...., at least not publicly.

Go and give the others several wake up calls in our mailing list so that more people will join the forum.

Hello folks: Here comes another 'Ma Lut Lo' from Canada. Glad to see this up and running - I am very proud to be a Wah Yan 80 boy - we are a real bunch full of Wah Yan spirit aren't we? This chat forum is great as I can get the latest gossips from HK and around the globe...news from me?! I drove to San Francisco mid-April and stayed with Frank Tsang Kwok Wing there we venyured to Napa Valley and drank our hearts and souls. We had a really good time but pity never had a chance to hook up with 'Saw Pui' Wong Kam Pui and Stephen Lau Lai Kit (I guess the Nortel crisis kept him too busy). Look like Frank Tsang (Porky Wing) IS coming up to Vancouver and so we will more than likely have another fine wine forum...
