Date Posted: 01:04:45 08/06/07 Mon Author Host/IP: NoHost/71.238.60.12 Once again, the team behind the Shrek franchise has raised the bar pertaining to animated film. "Shrek The Third" is absolutely incredible. There is one scene that is so brilliant that I want to get naked, walk next door and tell my neighbor about it. After the death of Shrek's father-in-law all the characters are gathered at a funeral; while they all convey somber expressions the scene is so bizarre as Wing's "Live and Let Die" plays culminating in a scene revealing a frog to be singing it. It's an obvious satire of "The Lion King" but it's so over-the-top and hits every note on its way that I want to praise it forever. Eventually, when Shrek and the rest turn solmenly away from the casket as the frog continues to bellow any viewer with a deep appreciation for the underpinning of what transpired should be exhilarated by simply been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to have just witnessed this. And I only paid $2 for my ticket. The animation is marvelous especially when the gang is in the forrest--the detail here is amazing though it adds nothing to the scene outside of simple richness. However, when Prince Charming ventures into the villians local watering-hole the animators create a shadowy world that only adds to the lines Charming has crossed and makes an attentive viewer realize just how far he is willing to go to destroy Shrek and Fiona and hence, how much he hates them. The fact that the villians ultimately switch sides in a happy ending didn't bother me nor did the fact that Justin Timberlake's Arthur continues the long line of attractive characters who only for the convenience of the plot are subjugated to loser status so that when they do evolve their still as handsome and likeable as they were before...whenever nobody liked them. Furthermore, the scene at the school was so goddamn funny. When the girl came up to Shrek to ask him to the prom for her friend I thought I was going to piss myself. I can't wait to see this again. 4 Stars I hesitate to claim there won't be a better movie this year because I'm jonzin' for the Simpsons and God has given me back so much...it's almost a no-brainer that this movie will deliver (messages reserved only for me). P.S. (Posterity's Sake) It's important to mention that I saw this movie two Fridays ago but haven't had the time to post on it. The point is that the film's appeal is growing stronger with the passing of time. I'm super-excited to see this again! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
