I do not mean to doubt the stats you report. I am just questioning it. I am aware that raccoons are responsible for about 1/3rd of the cases, but I didn't think 1/3rd of the coons had rabies. That was the part I found interesting. I did a quick search and learned that there have in fact been 27 cases of rabies in the US since 1990, which is not very many, but more than enough to not go try and grab one. LOL.

All said though, a coon isn't near as tough as many think, and is rather easily dispatched in a matter of seconds by a dog as formible as I would expect any boerboel worth feeding. I wouldn't be concerned about the dog at all, just keep it vaccinated just in case.
