Hi -- I did a lot of research on foods and lg/giant breed dogs when I decided to get my first BB 4 years ago. This was my first giant breed dog, I also have a lg normal dog who is 10.

Unfortunately, feeding RAW was not an economical option for me. I settled on Eaglepack Holistic Large/Giant Breed Puppy formula. I fed it for the first 15 months. My BB did well on it and grew slowly with no major growth spurts or Pano. I always started with the least amount of food recommended in their feeding guidelines. Then divided the total daily amount by 4 then 3 and finally 2 times a day(I think at 18 mos). I never "free" fed her. I took her to the Vets once a month(also helped with socialization) to get her weight and just watched her waistline. I adjusted the amount I fed accordingly i.e., if I could see those last two ribs and she acted like she was starving I would add a 1/4 cup more food at a time or deduct 1/4 cup of food, if I thought she needed it. This worked well for us. She didn't fully mature until she was three years old. She always(still does) looked good! However, when it was time for adult food, she did not do as well on the EaglePack.

I have fed Canidae All Life Stages, Innova large Bites, Taste of the Wild Salmon and now the Taste of the Wild Bison/Venison formula. She didn't do well on the Salmon formula. Both my dogs always acted like they were still hungry right after eating. They would go outside to forage for more food. That stopped when I switched to the Bison/Venison. They really like this food and are doing well on it. I am rotating foods and the above foods are the ones I have tried so far. Probably the other food they both really liked was the Innova Large Bites. Innova makes a Large Breed Puppy food also.

If you want to research EaglePack foods, Google the Great Dane Lady she has a lot of info on her site.

You might want to consider subscribing to the Whole Dog Journal. Every year they put out a dog food issue. It contains some great information and they do all the research for you!

Because Bloat is an issue with lg/giant breed dogs, I do some other things as well with regards to feeding. If you would like me to share more info with you that I have learned over the last few years, you are welcome to email me privately. Good luck with your new puppy they are great dogs. I plan to get another one in the near future:)

Sincerely,
