Usually, "stomach flipping" is called "bloat" and yes, all the big dogs are at much higher risk for it than smaller dogs.

According to this article, "Surgery, called gastropexy, allows the stomach to be tacked into normal position so that it may never again twist. Without gastropexy, the recurrence rate of bloat may be as high as 75%!" So yes, for dogs that have bloat and are saved, it is recomended for them to have gastropexy.
There's a lot of good information out there about bloat. Take a look; it's a good thing to know and always have in the back of your mind. It could save your dog or any other dog one day!

Regards,
Jessica
