You are absolutely right!!! Another part of the Christianity thing I couldn't reconcile is the fact that they preach a God who loves us unconditionally, yet is willing to see a large portion of his creation spend eternity in hell. Didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
I had a friend who was very fundamental Christian. She was absolutely beside herself with anxiety about her father going to hell. He was in a Nazi concentration camp as a child and rejected God at a very young age because of the emotional, spiritual, psychological trauma of that experience. He would never consider the possibility of God after that, as he couldn't believe a loving God would have allowed all that pain. Now, his daughter is convinced that if he doesn't "get saved" he will spend eternity in hell. Now, an all-knowing,benevolent God, who ( more than any of us), can understand the trauma and pain that poor child went through surely could not be so cold as to damn this man for ever. Ludicrus (sp?)! It's like God saying "I love you unconditionally, and unless you love me back, you're going to hell. First of all, that is very conditional. Second, it just doesn't make sense.
Well, enough preaching. :) I, too have difficulty with the idea of aligning myself with any organized religion. I think we have a lot to learn from all disciplines and philosohies, but no one has the corner on the truth.
