Another Engan is on the race for the top CJ post. Hope NEC compensates for stripping off the DPM post..

.........................................
Injia and Sevua are front runners

RELIABLE government sources have revealed the names of several judges who are in line to take over from Chief Justice, Sir Mari Kapi, if and when he retires.
In one list acting Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia tops the list of four candidates while in the other senior judge, Justice Mark Sevua has his name on the top.
The other contenders for the post are senior judges, Justice Gibbs Salika, Justice Nicholas Kirriwom, Justice Bernard Sakora and Justice Timothy Hinchliffe.
According to legal sources, the main tussle is likely to be between the Deputy Chief Justice Sir Salamo and Justice Sevua.
Both might be considered on regionalist basis where three earlier chief justices were from the Southern and Momase regions and a change to the Highlands or New Guinea Islands might be a consideration.
But lobbying is still very intense and any one of the other senior judges might be appointed at the last minute.
All theses candidates have the qualification and standing to fill the post depending on the list submitted by the Attorney General and Justice Minister.
The appointment of the chief justice according to the Consti-tution will be made by the head of state acting with, and in accordance with the advice of the National Executive Council given after consultation with the minister responsible for the national justice administration.
Chief Justice Sir Mari Kapi is on leave.
There is no official announcement of his retirement.
A memo from the Registrar Ian Augerea dated August 12 addressed to all registry staff, lawyers and the public with the subject ‘Retirement of Chief Justice and Changes to August National Court Circuits” had stated that the Chief Justice had issued a formal notice on the first of this month on the subject.

brethren,
i concur with yur point but we have to be careful to allow professional merits play for the appointment and can't hold that against other things which would be positive on own side also. we only have to work harder; four (e=1,n=2,g=3,a=4)times harder than any pngans or the fellows out there.

In my view judge Injia is anti Engan.....I'm not a lawyer but I say this as a layman because: he is the presiding judge in Issac Lupari's case with the central issue being breach of procedures in revoking his appointment which is enough to reinstate him but is dragging for a long time, secondly he had a rowe with judge Kandakasi over the SHP administrator's case where Kandakasi made one decision in Mt. Hagen and Injia made the opposite decision in Pom on the same case. I heard from people within the legal fraternity where the Deputy Cheif Justice was said to have commented that Engans should never be made judges as they are arrogant. I don't know if this is a lie but if there is any truth in this, then I suppose that's not very promising for those aspiring lawyers from our province that one day want to be judge. Anyway these are just my personal views and I believe the Deputy Chief Justice has his reasons. Thus I'm not qualified to pass judgement and wish him luck in his bid for the Chief Justice position.

Blessings
