It is a joke for Sam Abal to go that low to solicit votes. The road problem in the Aiyale Valley did not just happen over night. It existed since independence. If he is genuine and authentic enough he should have initiated this project when he took office. Why does he have to wait until election time to fund it? No Engan is stupid! We all know that this is a vote buying ploy that power hungry politicians use all around the country all the time.

Sadly, our people, the very people that give their blessings to this politician to lead, are uneducated and hence tend to accept this bribery and other con strategy that the politicians use.

The onus is on each of us educated Engans to inform our people on this matters. It is not a difficult task. All it needs is one or two good Engans to start it and it will spread. We cannot afford to vote those stupids again. Enga in the 21 st century must be led by capable leaders!... and we must start NOW!

I agree 61.

It is rather sickening to see the member for Wabag indulging in such free handout of people’s money, only 2/3 months before the issue of writs. How can a responsible leader agree to budget and use the District Support Grant to pay people who voted him in 2004 by-election?

The K1.1 million can be better utilized if the MP’s office can properly budget and expense per plan on one or two much needed impact projects that can benefit all. Would you spend this type of cash payouts on unplanned projects if it was money from your own company? We preach a lot about transparency, accountability, stewardship, enterprising and ownership of peoples assets but when will we ever practice what we preach?

The people of Wabag are not fools, they can not be mislead by a desperate MP who got lost somewhere between NCD and SHP. The Engans today are more matured in politics than our people from the last century and I won't be surprised if they get those money as their ‘pinis pei’.

I hope the responsible authorities like Ombudsman and ORD can check if the peoples money is properly used. Wish the Works Dept can also check on their engineers at Wabag if these works are properly scoped and built to engineering specifications or standards. I hope my colleagues are not compromising with safety and their professionalism in the name of politics? My engineering assessment of the roads are nothing more than a catalyst for erosion..

Only to name a few, Lakemanda was given K40,000 for physically doing nothing, Aipusa was given K20,000 and the list goes on. Surprisingly, some villagers including Keas and Sari rejected what was offered because they thought they deserved more than what was offered. All other villagers from Akom to Surunki who feared free handouts pretended to do something by cleaning existing road drains, etc.

The truth is, when distributed, each individual will end up with only a K10 or K20 note but what can you buy with a Somare head these days? Good luck to us, free money, easy come, easy go!, before you know, it’s all gone???

Member, thanks for the initiative, we will come and line up at the green house again when the road drains are blocked and grasses are grown up again.

AS ELITES WE SHOULD PROMOTE AND MAKE AWARENESS FOR ALL ENGAN'S TO SAY NO TO CASH HANDOUT's & YES TO PROJECTS OR DEVELOPMENT.
