When I first got started hatching I had a lot of mishaps. Mostly my own fault but you know you have to go with the punches. It's a learning proccess and I think we all have to endure it in the beginning. Even those long hard core hatchers go through it still. Personally, I think alot of them get hardened to it and shine it on. You know what I mean. Hey, I have an Idea. I have an extra egg turner for the styro bator. I bought two bator like yours and I have one on eggbay right now with the auto egg turner and alot of extra accessories. I kept the one I hatched eggs in and am selling the one I just incubated them with.. Anyway, What I'm getting at is I have another auto egg turner if you want it. It's new, never used. You have to pay the shipping though. I'll give you the turner. I don't need it and it will just stay in the box forever. It's not even worth putting on eggbay to sell. They don't cost that much. I think this one was something like $20.00 from Double R Supply. If you pay the shipping, I'll help you out with the turner. You know it's funny. Ever since I started this Brooder Box message board, no one on the FowlAround will talk to me.I'm about ready to give that board up. There is no point in posting if there is no reply. Seems I've been black balled! LOL.. Oh well, stuff happens I guess.
Now, about those chicks with the eyes that won't open. I don't really have any experience in that. Have never seen it but it seems they were just to weak from the way you described it. Sometimes it's best just to let God have them. Have you done some research to see what you can find on the subject? I'll do some searching too and maybe we can put our heads together and come up with a solution or atleast a reason for it.
I love the Peafowl family too. I'm like you. I love to hear them call. Sounds like a jungle sound to me.LOL, I'm kinda weird that way too.
You asked if a wadding pool would be good enough for geese and ducks. Answer is very much yes. I used to raise the big Candaian Geese and had some Pekin Ducks. I kept two large wadding pools with water all the time and they loved them. You can do either one of these ideas. I did both. I dug down and burried one to about 2" from the top of the pool and places rocks and gravel around it to make it look nice and put one of those small inexpensive filter/fountains in it. Made the yard look nice but they are too shallow for fish. Ducks love it though. They loved swimming under the fountain and letting the water roll over their backs. I went and found some river rocks to put around in the bottom too. they like to go under and pick them up and play with them. Makes them feel like they are fishing...or, if you don't want the expense of a filter/fountain, just set a kiddie pool out and keep it full all the time with fresh water but I would still keep rocks in the bottom. they just love to go under and pick them up. Ducks and Geese are alot of fun. Watch those drake Geese though. Adults like to chase you sometimes! LOL They don't just peck. They grab and twist. Hurts like the dickens too! LOL
I'll check to see what I can find on that eye problem. See what you can come up with too and we will talk about it. Talk to you soon Marion... Don't sweat the small stuff on the FowlAround. It's JUST a message board! Ta Taaaa!
