I definitely agree.

One thing I have been reading is how eating any type of refined carbs or refined sugars releases an overload of insulin which sets up more cravings. Despite the fact that I am a firm believer in balance in all things I have decided it is better for me to go to the opposite extreme in this situation with my weightloss. I have so much weight to loose and such a long road to travel with this undertaking. I figured I had better do everything I could to avoid the cravings. There are times when I thought I could never give up certain foods. One theory explored in the carbohydrate addicts diet book is the concept of not eating any starchy carbs in the first part of the day. This drove me crazy since it contradicts the concept of eating your calories earlier so you can burn them off!!!!

Combine this thinking with the fact that I have a 46 yr old sluggish metabolism....no! scratch that...it is worse than sluggish...it is down right retrograde! ... and I have plateaus like every week.

Stategies that have been working (I have managed to drop 17 lbs in 7 weeks), have been to eat lean protein and unsaturated fat at every meal...and a ton of raw non-starchy veggies. I limit the fruits, but have been eating like a half a grapefruit at every meal. i include a wholegrain source about once a day....something like kashi unsweetened puffed cereal, hot ait popcorn or 1 or 2 slices of 7-grain bread (the stuff from the healthfood store....no flour). Like you, I am drinking a ton of water. I have the same issues with the kids and icecream, cookies, pastas, etc that they eat. I have been rewarding myself with fresh shrimp, the leanest cuts of steak, etc.

The hardest thing for me is to not get discouraged with the progress or lack thereof on the scale. I get empted to drastically cut calories to get the thing to move....but I am afraid of damaging my already poor metabolisim. So instead I have been dancing in the family room like a maniac every single day for 30 minutes. About 5X a week Spell weever and I also go for a walk in the evening. i bought all sorts of motivating "get your body moving" CDs like Bruce springstein's "Pink cadillac", "Bad to the bone", "Ghostbusters", "Mony Mony", "Hot hot hot", "old time rock and roll", and a bunch of oldies stuff as well including "love potion #9". I push back the furniture and go nuts. Tabitha likes to lay right there in the middle of the rug where I am dancing and attempts to rub or bite my feet every so often.

Take out some of those clkothes you love that don't fit and hang them where you can see them everyday. Do you have an old picture of yourself when you were thinner? You could put it on the refridgerator. Saying afirmations to myslef helps. like..."I am thin'...."I eat like a dancer (or model if that works for you)" I keep a notebook. It's one of those 7 subject notebooks. In the front of the notebook is a weekly weigh-in chart. The next section is a daily food diary. I write down everything i eat and when and how much I exercise. It keeps me honest. In the thrid section I write down motivational thoughts, such as taking a cruise with my husband. I also made a list of clothes I have that i want to fit back into. In another section i wrote down menu plans and added up the calories ahead of time. I take it with me to the places where I might get into trouble. I glance at it frequently. It is harder to cheat when you know you will have to write it down.

Well, I sure hope some of this helps. Mostly....I hope you know you are not alone and that I am struggling as well. It feels most frustrating to think i have lost this weight and no one even notices because i am still so fat!! I look foward to seeing those smaller numbers on the scale and in the tags of my clothes!!

Ok.....going to go dancercize!

talk to you soon!

hugs,
dreemy
