Okay so here's the thing. For the past two weeks or so, I've been doing fairly well with getting back on track, healthy-eating wise. I've had a few slipups but NOTHING like the major meltdowns I was having the last few months. I had one slipup that sticks out more than the rest: a few nights ago I went to a drama club showcase that my mother was running at my old high school, and the refreshments were all calorie, sugar laden treats. I was stressed out about other things, and because of that stress not only did I forget to pack "ammunition" so I wouldn't be as tempted, but the stress made more prone to crave those snacks. I didn't totally overdo it, but I did more than I wanted to, and the scale showed it the next day. Ugh anyway that's not even the point of this entry!! :-)
My problem is that for some reason, after I eat dinner, more nights than not, I get very very bloated. I have no idea why, really. I'm not sure if it's the kind of food I'm eating (dinner tends to be a large-ish meal, sit-down with the family, but not over-the-top) or if I'm inadvertantly eating too much or what but all I know is that by the end of dinner my pants are tight and stay that way for the rest of the night. I could be eating more than I should without realizing it (although I don't do "seconds" or anything, and I fill up at least half my plate with veggies). This makes sense, because my other "meals" during the day are things that I prepare just for myself (sometimes my boyfriend, if he's around as well), single-serving type things that I measure out very carefully. Dinner, like I said, is with the whole family and there is more there, so maybe I'm taking a bigger portion than I am at other times. I don't know. It's really frustrating though. I don't necessarily feel uncomfortably "full" I just feel FAT. And sometimes it's accompanied by other unpleasant IBS symptoms. It's just so blah. It doesn't happen every night but I am noticing that it's happening probably at least half of the time since I've been home. I guess that a good strategy for figuring it out is to record the nights that it happens and what I happened to eat that might have triggered it. (as it is, I need to get myself a beautiful weightloss journal so I will be motivated to write in it) That way I can eliminate those foods or go easier on them.
For instance, tonight I had about 1/3 c. whole wheat pasta with my homemade tomato sauce (made with VERY little salt), half a plate full of steamed green beans, and about 1/2 c. of seasoned cubed tofu done in a frying pan with olive oil spray, also which had very little salt. AND I FEEL LIKE A BALLOON. Not even just my stomach, but even into my thighs. Perhaps it was the soy in the tofu? I don't know, but it's so frustrating because I felt like I had such an appropriate dinner but I feel so fat after eating it. I really don't know what the answer is...but I am really interested to hear suggestions and thoughts because this is seriously starting to bug me.
Ahhhh tomorrow is my step-sister's wedding shower. I'm sure there will be even more tempting evil treats there. This time I will remember ammunition!! I am not worried about the Memorial Day Monday because I will be at home and with Dreemy & her family all day so I know I will be around only wholesome, clean food!!
AHHHHH here's hoping I figure this all out...
