Evan nodded slightly to the great hawk as he sat sedately on Michael's shoulder. To his warrior, he explained the situation.

Michael stood as tall as a ten-year-old can, and for a moment seemed almost regal. Pride was written in every line of his body, and in his yellowed eyes gleamed the feralness, held well in check, so characteristic of his kind. One could almost see the eagle peering from his pointed, fierce features, could imagine the wings in the way he held his arms. He was a true Cheysuli, and in that moment even Evan was surprised, catching a glimpse of the man that this boy would someday be.

"I will accept you," Michael told the Clan leader, bowing low. Evan, too, lowered his proud head.
