Rio pulled both herself and Gabriel through the rapidly flowing river. She could feel herself growing tired, yet she refused to allow Gabriel to shapechange. She knew the hounds on the riverbank were trcing her scent, and she didn't want more attention brought to them by Gabriel taking on the form of a wolf as well.

Suddenly, as if from a dream, she heard the tone of anouther lir. A cat of some sort. The gental tone said only... I'm coming.

Feeling a renewed sense of energy she pushed on toward the distant shore. Sending out to the unknown lir. ::Hurry please. We need your help. Bring your lir with you.::

On the shore that the wolf and her lir had just left the humans and their canine companions were gathering. Everyone attention was locked on the pair in the river. "Wot should we do captain?"

A large man with mean eyes smiled evilly. "Target practice my boys. First one 'at hits one of 'em has dinna on me." He carefully leashed his favorite hound and then, with but one word, sent the other four diving into the river. "An do try not ta hit me precious pups."

The men laughed loudly and took out their pistols. Each one firing random shots at the pair swimming away.
