"Yeah, I guess so," Angie agreed. "He's pretty helpless, i'n he?" She snorted with laughter. "What'll he think, though, when he wakes up?" The thought seemed to greatly amuse her as she scrabbled in the dirt to clear it of rocks.
"He's got a coat, at least," she said, and promptly seized its lapels to pull Jeff into a sitting position. She deftly stripped the coat from his shoulders and let him fall back again. "Here." She opened up the coat and laid it across the unconscious body. "We can at least have the edges." Unceremoniously, she pulled Jeff's arm out to one side and used his shoulder as a pillow, laying on her back. Dimly, she could see her own bare toes silhouetted against the wan light outside as the moon filtered down through the trees.
"Say, uh... What was your name? Alexis? Yeah, Alexis... If you're Cheysuli, that means you can turn into an animal, right? Well... What's it like?"

Gwenneth sighed. It felt good to be in her true form again; she felt strong and free, and for the first time in many years things were truly looking up. She looked up through the gently waving branches to the starry sky high above. Her limbs were aching with the desire to run, to dash freely over the hills with her boy beside her. She wondered idly what his lir form would look like, and as she was wondering she fell asleep.
